Logline:

Short Synopsis:

South of Southern is a film that explores the lives of several seemingly traditional Southerners and the complications that often arise when old society mantras meet the modern age.  This is a tale of treachery, deceit, debauchery, and salvation, seen through the eyes of a handful of diverse party guests celebrating the engagement of a young couple, delving into the darker side of proper Southern society.  Two families collide at the apex of a generation, each clan harboring staggering secrets that not even their own relatives could fathom – an epic clashing of truth, appearance, alcohol, and morality, destined to forever shape the future of both bloodlines.

Film Overview:  

South of Southern is a timeless film and it is not just a story about the South – it’s about complicated family relationships and how we act when everyone comes together.  It pulls back the curtain and shows that no matter where you’re from, people are still the same.  It starts with the wedding invitations for Hollis and Heyward being opened.  As the planning begins for an engagement party, it shows the chaos that ensues as two very different Southern families collide in a spectacular evening of dysfunction.   From the beginning, every character’s true colors start to emerge, past woes start to resurface and by the end everyone reverts back to some facsimile of their childhood insecurities and past mistakes creating an environment for some startling revelations.  The title of the film is a term that describes perfectly that uncle’ or ‘that sister’ who without fail will take the crazy to a whole new level at family events, until the whole evening goes South, in this case South of Southern.
